When travelling long distances, especially in the more regional or remote parts of Australia, having a backup water source is absolutely essential. Being a thousand kilometers from anywhere and running out of water sounds like a nightmare plot from a movie, but it can easily happen if you're not prepared. And so with that we welcome you to the world of the 4WD water tank!

4x4 water tanks come in many shapes and sizes. These include water tanks for the big trucks, right through to standard and smaller ute water tanks. They range from your typical 20L Jerry Can solution, right through to the 120 litre vertical or horizontal tanks, as well as under tray tanks and even footwell tanks. The requirement for 4WD or ute water tanks come from the need to carry large quantities of water when traveling long distances with no access to water. It also serves as an emergency supply when camping in areas that don't have a fresh water source.

Water and Fuel Tank Installation Options

There are many options when it comes to installing a water or fuel tank for your vehicle, ute or 4WD and will depend on your individual requirements. Many people will settle for a tank that's filled using a hose, along with a gravity feed to get the water (or fuel) out. Others prefer the use of a 12v water or fuel pump that can both fill and drain the tank automatically. Mounting the tank, if required, is usually done via straps or brackets. This is very often a custom installation as it varies from one vehicle to the next and what your requirements are.
